Azoia is a small village in the extreme south of the Setúbal peninsula. Its main road ends at the Santuário de Nossa Senhora (Sanctuary of Our Lady) of Cabo Espichel, a sacred place of pilgrimage in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, recently named national cultural heritage. In the 19th century, the King D. Carlos I of Portugal built a country house and a hunting lodge in Azoia.
